Marije's day did not go to plan as a nasty shoulder dislocation ended her adventure on the Glyderau.
The plan was to head up the NE Ridge of Y Garn and then onto the Llymllwyd ridge over Foel Goch and then onto Elidir Fawr, a great walk but, crossing a stile some forty minutes into the route, somehow she managed to rip her shoulder out, not pleasant!
I knew then we were in trouble, we were quite steep on a wet mountain side at about 1300' and it was raining! Sometimes as Mountain Leaders we moan about carrying all the stuff in our packs that we never use, well today I used lots of that stuff.
Once she was relatively comfortable (only screaming on short bursts now!) I did my thing and contacted Mountain Rescue and guided them into our location with a 10 figure GR, hour and a half and Marjie was being lifted into the air and on her way to Ysbyty Gwynedd.
Some have asked why cant you walk off if its only a shoulder injury, trust me, when every step sends up pain, you are unbalanced and may fall again making it even worse, or even pass out! The paramedic took a tumble on the wet grass just getting to her, just saying!
It all ended ok, everyone got home safe but, without Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue todays story could have been much worse, we rely on these unpaid volunteers to come to our aid on the mountains, support them whenever you can!
