Dodged the worst of the weather and managed to get three good days on the mountains, Snowdon was really good, working alongside Mike Raine delivering a workshop for qualified mountain leaders. A long day out coming off the hill in darkness but so much to talk about, this mountain packs it in!
Siabod was not a good day with howling winds and driving rain, that certainly swept away the cobwebs
Last week Myself and Andy did a Glyders traverse starting at Nant Peris tak...Read Full Post »

Well hopefully next year will not be any worse than this one and things will gradualy get back to some sort of normal.
The financial cost to everyone working in the outdoor sector is huge, I am down 75% on bookings compared to last year, not good!
Back on the mountains next week for my last working day with Mike Raine on a Snowdon workshop and a day out somewhere nice, hopefully taking some nice photos for the next blog.
Photos from a quic...Read Full Post »

Wow the end of the season seems to have sneaked up on me and with another Welsh National lockdown seemingly planned for the 23rd of October that will certainly finish the job!
Of course we will continue throughout the winter months if the ground conditions (and lockdowns) allow. There will be many great days that provide opportunities to get some good walking in so please do get in touch to see what is on offer.
The last couple of weekends I have been out w...Read Full Post »

Just returned from Craflwyn Hall and three days leading a variety of walks, highlight was a fab day up Snowdon with Paul, Rob, Jean & Susan, first timers on Snowdon and looking forward to the challenge.
Taking my favourite Rhyd Ddu path up to the summit and returning by the South Ridge always promises to be a great day and this was no exception, a bit of banter always helps the pain of those steep pulls along with a bit of ear bashing (educational input) and we were soon at the unus...Read Full Post »

Working for Raw Adventures looking after Annand & Sheila who were guests at Pale Hall in Bala we had two fab sunny days out in Snowdonia.
First day we took on the Elio ridgeline circuit and boy was it hot! p-leny of fluids the order of the day.
Second day was to be more relaxed and the choice was Cwm Bychan and the fishermans path back to Beddgelert, a classic circuit and another sunny day for us.
Although this pair have tackled many high peaks in the Alps etc this...Read Full Post »

It was great to Catch up with Julia who had travelled to Craflwyn Hall from Edingburgh for eight days of Snowdonia walking and what nice weathr overall she had.
The Watkin Path was the only one Julia had not tackled all the way to the summit so that was the route for the day with a great descent by way of Allt Maenderyn.
The weather was great on the day which also attracted massive crowds at the summit once at the top Julia decided that she wanted to bag the peak of Ga...Read Full Post »

Returning for the second year Vinayak, Peter & Kris had another bash at Snowdon, this year taking the Llanberis Path for a leisurley stroll to the summit. The weather held out for us, it was not the best but we didnt get wet and we had clear skies for our descent.
The guys were really interested in the history of Wales, the area and Snowdonl, its always nice to be able to pass on information and makes for a better day out on the hill.
Big shout ou...Read Full Post »

Arriving in Llanberis the evening of Storm Francis was not the best start for Annabel and 11 year old son Casius who had travelled up from London for their Snowdon adventure.
Setting off on the Thursday I knew we only had a possible two hour window when the weather was forecasted to be clear and dry (hopefully). Taking the Sherpa to Pen y Pass for an ascent by the Pyg and then down by way of the Llanberis Path was our chosen route.
Rain and wind did not d...Read Full Post »

Very disappointing Snowdon Warden day, lots of rain and lots of litter!
Despite the paths being cleared of rubbish by wardens yesterday we managed to pick up 6 very heavy bags today and, we only went halfway up!
Our haul included, Nappies, beer bottles, red bull cans, underwear, socks, sweaters, bana skins, tissues, plastic bottles etc etc etc.,
Without doubt we now have an influx of people on the mountain that would probably b...Read Full Post »

Afetr a really tiring hot and humid trip up Hebog on Wednesday I decided that the Saturday work on Snowdon was going to have an early start to try and beat some of the heat.
Working for Glyn Peris B&B once again, we managed to arrange a 07.30 start for Canadian Military Chaplain Lesley who was having her first visit to Snowdonia. The Ranger was the chosen route and she made short work of the ascent to reach the summit before 10.30 which meant no queues!

Travelling from Birmingham I don't think Nicola could not have expected what an adventure she was in for.
Massive thunder storms, power cuts and unbearable heat during the night meant everybody was feeling a little worse for wear the next morning.
That was not going to deter Nicola and off we set for our Snowdon Adventure, the weather was hot with clear skies, a promise of storms later in the day meant we had to get on the mountain and back down as quickly as we could.

Well after 6 Snowdon climbs and a few lesser walks my fitness and mountain legs have returned!
It was good to be back working for Large Outdoors on Sunday with a splendid Sunrise walk, great group of people who thorougly enjoyed their adventue.
Tomorrow I am back up Snowdon followed by a Hebog trip on the Wednesday, nice to have a change before heading back up the big hill on Saturday.
The thunder and lightening has arrived and will hopefully clear ov...Read Full Post »

The parking at Pen y Pass at the weekends is now sorted - THERE IS NONE!So from 18.00hrs on Fridays the carpark is locked and shut untill 18.00 on the following Sunday, and I must say it is much better.
My mountain legs have returned with various walks completed (usually with a good wetting as well!) and now I am just hoping that visitors will once again be wanting to get back to our fab mountains.
Low level recce the other day with sister Linda and I inten...Read Full Post »

Well it was always going to be a bit tough starting up those mountains again after 4 months off! but today it was Snowdon summit number 6 and all was well.
Working for Glyn Peris B&B today they allocated me to a 26 year old fitness instructor who wanted to do the Watkin Path and South Ridge, oh dear!
Apart from the weather which was wet, windy and cloudy we had a great walk completing the mission in just over five and a half hours.
