Due to the current situation all pre-planned walks in April & May are now postponed, I will look at the situation again at the end of May.
We will get through this and hopefuly come out stronger on the other side.
I will still be walking on the mountains (alone) and will post updates as and when I can.
Keep safe and be strong

Just arrived back from a good trip away to the Lakes, I did try to post a blog whilst there but tinternet problems did not allow!
I managed to get in some decent walking whist dodging the weather, based in Derwent Bank for four nights before heading on to Coniston for another three nights.
This was the first time I had ventured up Cat Bells (only been to the Lakes a million times!), what a nice little walk with great views, definately reccomended.

Hi, the Open group walk on Saturday May 2nd is now taking the Rhyd Ddu Path and decending by the South Ridge, probably the best walk on Snowdon £40pp, places available.
I had a great day with a group from London raising monies for various projects. The weather was very cold (minus 10 at the summit) and windy but as we arrived the cloud lifted and the sun came out! temperature did not improve though.
Taken just before the cloud lifted, tooo cold to get ...Read Full Post »

Its now official: Snowdonia Walker is a National Park "Snowdon visit specialist" and I am very proud to be able to promote and help protect our very special mountain.
Yesterday, myself and several other mountain leadersI met with Large Outdoors owner Gareth Williams, this is an English based company that I have worked for and it was nice to get an insight on how they work and of course the ethos of the company.
I am looking forward to more adventures with them and bonus, we were t...Read Full Post »

Goes without having to say that, its very wet in the hills and worse than that, the wind speeds seem to be constantly 40-60mph.
The snow has gone again but due back from Wednesday with promised downfalls through to Saturday so my walk with 30 or so students from London will not be going to the summit or anywhere near a high top!
So not too much walking on the hills but I have been out and about attending talks and meetings etc and of course planning future walks and ad...Read Full Post »

Quick catch up, as the season gets nearer I have put on the first Snowdon Open Group Walk on Saturday May 2nd cost is £40pp.
Its a case of battening down the hatches this weekend as yet another storm arrives, luckily the Rugby is on so I will spend Saturday in a local hostelry hopefully cheering on Wales to a win over Ireland, no doubts it will be close either way!
We still have ice and a scattering of snow on the high summits so please be careful if y...Read Full Post »

The Snowdon workshop for Mountain Leaders that I delivered with Mike Raine was a great success, the weather held and we had a really good day on the mountain.
Aimed at providing a wealth of indepth knowledge to a group of already knowlegable people can be a challenge and of course a full day of information can hurt you head!
Fortunately Snowdon is able to provide an abundance of really interesting information with topics diverging from the geology to the smelly septic tanks!...Read Full Post »

As the weather forecast was good for Sunday we got all the kids and grandkids together for a day out on Llanddwyn Island, the weather was great and we had a fab day along with the very many who also were visiting the island.
Monday and it was back to Snowdon for a wintery day out with a couple of the boys from the fireservice, weather once again was great and we had a good bimble on the hill taking in a few different small peaks on the way down.
Still a lot out with pr...Read Full Post »

After my last blog titled "we are snow free" now we are not and I was lucky to get out onto the Glyders for a play, reall good day and I am looking forward to a Snowodn outing tomorrow for more of the same.
The snow is like a magnet for people and the mountains have been really busy this weekend, couple of people had to be airlifted off Crib Goch yesterday, not the best place to be in this weather if you are not experienced winter mountaineers!
Oh I forgot ! I ha...Read Full Post »

No snow on the big hill at the moment, just a bit windy and wet!
I was out with the Snowdonia Society & National Trust today giving some newly planted trees some TLC, I learnt some stuff and did'nt get wet, bonus.
Last week I managed to get out onto the high Carneddau and this Friday I think it will be trip either to the Glyderau or the big hill, will await to see the weather forecast!

Had a call from Mike Raine to see if I would be interested in co hosting some days on Snowdon for qualified Mountain Leaders, this is a great opportunity for me to work alongside Mike and also be able to impart some of my knowledge to those coming out with us.
The first session Jan 24th sold out in a day and we are now looking at putting another couple on during the season, no pressure!!
Oh no! Not Snowdon again…

Well we seem to have hit the Tripadvisor headlines once again with reviews from ill prepared walkers who thought it would be a stroll in the park.
Too many moans to detail here (sample below) but check out trip advisor to have a chuckle:)

Made it! well nearly, just a low key New Years eve celebration with number one son Matthew and family coming to stay for a few days, they wil be joined by number two son Tom and family coming along on New Years day to make it a noisy event with all those ankle biters! Roll on 2021.
I managed to get out on the hills yesterday with a couple of ex- firefigher colleagues and we battled the high winds and heavy cloud which definately helped blow any lingering cobwebs away.

With a recent arrival of bookings it looks like next year will be busy for me again. This is a great time to book your preferred walk date and gives you a look forward to a fantastic day out on our lovely mountains, which ever one you choose!
To any one viewing for the first time you will have noticed that this is not a flash website with automatic forms and tick boxes etc!

Myself and Andy geared up for a day on Snowdon earlier in the week, the forecast was not good with high winds, rain and hail promised but we neede to get out there!
As we arrived at a wet and quiet Pen y Pass the weather was as promised, wet, cold and windy and we were still in the car! But off we set, calling into the Wardens office first, we found the mountain goats had decided to use the facilities and were hiding in the ladies toilet, that questioned our decision to go up the hill!Read Full Post »

This cold snap has left us with some very slippy rocks and paths, even at low level!
Managed to get out onto the Glyders with Linda accompanied by Elsie the thief dog, just cant put anything down cos she will have it ! A good day out though apart from dodging the ice on the way back to the Ogwen Centre.
This weather does bring clear skies and great sunrises.
