Well it may only be a short time to the festive period but I am still very busy getting through the heavy workload in September!
This week has been busy with Snowdon walks, Warden Duty and a Geology day with Paul Ganon
Myself and fellow Warden Linda (sister) had a good soaking yesterday whilst on patrol on the Miners and Pyg Track, still managed to clear a couple of culverts and pick up yet more litter though.
Today was a rearanged trip with Sue from Cornwa...Read Full Post »

With a forecasted temp of feeling like minus-3 tomorrow on the summit of Snowdon Autumn has managed to sneak upon us, it was baltic on Monday with everybody donning hats & gloves etc, but then again we see that quite often during the summer months.
I am working for Glyn Peris B&B a couple of times this week and then Saturday its a full day out providing Mountain Leader cover for the Rat Race (Man v Mountain) a huge event taking place on and around Snowdon.Read Full Post »

For a change the weather was great for the last Bank Holiday of the year and Gwyn, Gary, Matthew & Jonathon made the most of it with a fantastic day out on Snowdon.
Taking an unusually very busy Rhyd Ddu Path to a very clear and sunny summit we could see the heavy low clouds drifting their way towards us from the coast, that spurned us on to get to the top in just over two hours.
The summit was quite busy so we headed round to the front to have great views over Lly...Read Full Post »

Yes, it looks like we will have great weather for the holiday weekend, as I have a day off on Saturday its especially good!
Sunday sees me back on Snowdon and I am looking forward to having some sushine as we head up one of my favourite routes "Rhyd Ddu and the South Ridge. Whilst these two paths are relatively quiet the summit no doubt will be a tad busy!
As we head quickly towards the end of the season September and October are busy for me, there are stil...Read Full Post »

Choosing her first mountain climb it just had to be the highest in Wales & England "Snowdon" Coming from Hertfordshire there was not much realistic training she could do so she just had to go for it choosing the hardest route up the mountain "The Watkin Path & South Ridge"
We had a weather window of about six hours to make the climb with a clearish summit promised about one o'clock and rain to follow at 4. We made great progress with lots of information being p...Read Full Post »

After lots of cancellations due to poor weather etc there was definately a break in the weather forecast today to enable Richard to finally get to the summit of Snowdon.
Richard is the manager at HF Holidays Craflwyn Hall in Beddgelert and about 4 times a week sees off guests as they embark on their own Snowdon adventures so it was nice for him to see for himself, first hand what our magnificent mountain has to offer.
Rich was no slow coach and we reached the summit in...Read Full Post »

The weather is very changeable at the moment but still remains very warm and humid, so if you are venturing out please take plenty to drink (not beer or gin!).
Saturday I was out providing Mountain Leader cover for the Snowdonia Society on an organised footpath maintenance day with the National Trust Rangers and volunteers on Y Garn, they still gave me a spade!
It was a very interesting day and we managed to complete several very labour intensive tasks quite high up th...Read Full Post »

Here we go again, rain wind, cloud, you name we have had it again on the mountain.
Working for Large Outdoors on Saturday supporting a group from different parts of the country with their Snowdon Adventure, apart from the rubbish weather and not being able to see anything at the summit, we had a great day out.
THIS IS THE FINAL CALL FOR THE OPEN GROUP WALK ON MONDAY AUGUST 19TH, ...Read Full Post »

Wow, Wednesday was misty, windy and wet on Snowdon summit and here we are today in red hot sunshine again, crazy weather!
Tuesday I was working for Glyn Peris B&B supporting Catherine and daughter Sarah on their Snowdon adventure, its always a tough ask for people who are not mountain or hill walkers to get to the summit of our fantastic mountain.
Whilst there are lots of nice photos posted everyday on social media from people on the mountain but its easy to forget...Read Full Post »

Well schools have now broken up for the summer so that means, more traffic more traffic on the infamous A55!
Last week it was three days in Welsh Classes followed by more Snowdon Adventures, this time working for Charity Challenge & Raw Adventures supporting 150 Morrisons people raising monies for a worthy cause.
Unfortunately the weather in the morning was rather crap ensuring they had a good soaking on the way to the summit, it did however brighten up on the way ...Read Full Post »

Over 1700 runners took part in Sundays Trail Marathon which finished with a run over Snowdon, I was not running but was on duty providing Mountain Leader cover and first aid on some of the not so nice parts of the track.
Thankfully I had a quiet day strapping only one knee & one foot (different runners), it could so easilly have been worrse
Welsh course for me for this week followed by a weekend on Snowdon and, REMEMBER its the International Snowdon ...Read Full Post »

Marije's day did not go to plan as a nasty shoulder dislocation ended her adventure on the Glyderau.
The plan was to head up the NE Ridge of Y Garn and then onto the Llymllwyd ridge over Foel Goch and then onto Elidir Fawr, a great walk but, crossing a stile some forty minutes into the route, somehow she managed to rip her shoulder out, not pleasant!
I knew then we were in trouble, we were quite steep on a wet mountain side at about 1300' and it was raining...Read Full Post »

The International Snowdon Race takes place on Saturday 20th July, this runs up and down the Llanberis Path which means the mountain will be very, very busy on that day.
Avoid it if you can or take one of the routes on the other side of the mountain, the Pyg and Miners will also be very busy., I will be working on thRanger Path that day with Raw Adventures on of 14 Mountain Leaders bringing a big group up.
Not long until the kids break up for the summer holidays so get ...Read Full Post »

Travelling up from London, Naomi & Claire along with teenege sons Charlie & James had taken on the challenge of our highest and grandest peak "Yr Wyddfa" would all their expectations be met? That would a big fat yes then, clear skies & a gentle breeze were the order of the day and the path selected "Rhyd Ddu" was quiet compared to the main tourist paths.
It is easy for us to forget that all routes to the summit can be challenging if you are not used t...Read Full Post »

What a difference a few days make, walking in the heavy fog on Y Garn on Wednesday and then into the baking hot sun on Snowdon on Friday, so damp gear on Wednesday and burnt legs on Friday!!
Onto the weekend and it was back to a National Three Peaks challenge walk at 4am on Sunday morning, good fit group getting to a very windy and bloomin cold Snowdon summit.
Three peaks are not for me, too much travelling time in a minibus and then a mad rush up three fantastic mount...Read Full Post »

This weekend was filled working for Raw Adventures (Snowdon group walk) and UK Charity Challenge (National 3 Peaks) both using the Pyg Track going up and the Llanberis Path coming down.
The walks might sound the same but were in fact very different in their timings and weather etc:
- Seven and a half hours total for Saturday's group walk starting at 10.00.
- Four and a half hours

Great two days out on Snowdon and although it was a bit nippy it was dry and sunny, hooray summers here this week!
Wednesday working for Raw Adventures helping to look after 55 school children from Oxford on their Snowdon challenge, and they all made it up to the summit and down safely again.
Great team effort from the children, teachers and of course the fanatastic Mountain Leader team.
Today ( Thursday) I was out with Richard from Lincolnshire who i...Read Full Post »
